Why am I having Brown Discharge?
I’m having brown discharge and it just started recently. I am sexually active and I’m scared. I don’t really have a ride to the hospital, so I called. They won’t help me because my doctor is not at this hospital. I am up at school(Saginaw Valley) and the closes hospital is around the corner. My period is abnormal and it can come whenever. My last one was when I was like 15 and now I’m 18, the doctor said that its normal because I’m very active and my body had to choose between being very active or starting my period, it couldn’t do both. I’m scared to tell my mother because she don’t een know I’m sexually active. Like two days ago, my discharge was white and now its brown, can someone please help me or give some advice. Preferably a nurse or doctor, or someone who knows what they are talking about.
Ok now I’m not a doctor so take this advice with a grain of salt.
It IS true that people who are VERY active (especially athletes) often have completely irregular periods. Also, if you take birth control but not regularly, that could be a problem too.
If you have white discharge, depending on the texture, that could be an indication of an infection, for example a yeast infection. As gross as this may sound, I would do a “scent test” – if you think something down there smells weird, as in not the way it usually does, then that’s almost a guarantee that you have either an infection or an STD. Either way I would get it checked out asap. You could try a free clinic – you can probably just look that up in the phone book. Alternatively, either look it up on the internet or also look for teen help lines, a lot of times they can point you in the right direction.
Above all, don’t be ashamed and don’t try to hide this – because if it’s a serious problem it needs to be taken care of ASAP!!!
