In my first wedding, photos came out with different exposures, is this acceptable in pro photography?
In my first wedding I did not want the photos with the beautiful candle light not to be ruined by the flash, I took the photos without flash, some came out blurry some came out with different exposures. Then later I decided to use the bounced flash for the parents and bride photos and although the exposure was acceptable, some came out with back shadows. long story short, all the photos came out with different exposures, is this something normal that happens to professional photographers and is this acceptable. Getting the perfect exposure in all photos is not easy!
Also, do photographers shoot inside chapels without bounce flash or minimum flash?
Any help will be appreciated , thank you.
Is it acceptable? No. Even if you’re not getting paid, it’s not acceptable.
What settings did you have your camera at? I’d hope you were shooting in Manual, especially if you are using flash. Using Manual you can make sure all of your exposures are the same because the settings do not change according to the cameras’ light meter.
You’re also able to use flash and keep the light from the candles. You just have to get your exposure right. Adjust the shutter speed, aperture, and ISO settings to make sure you get your subject lit properly, but that the candles are still visible. Here’s an example of a shot I did last year: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3603/3626581953_0c9b436ff3.jpg
If you’re not able to use flash, getting a camera that can handle high ISO settings is a major plus. Pretty much any of the new cameras, whether it be Canon, Nikon, etc., can handle ISO’s up to 6400 with minimal noise.
Basically, it just takes knowing your gear and actually using it. Practice makes perfect.
Good luck with your photography.
