Pink Purple
we found patches of light pink to dark pink- purple growth on the inside of our basement walls.What mold is it
Our basement gets some water in it at times- we just noticed this mold recently, and it has only been there for a few months. Any idea of how immediately we should try to deal with it, and if it poses an immediate health problem?
No way to tell from that description; may even be bacterial colonies or colored efflorescence. I’d get out some gloves and an N95 mask and some good ventilation and scrub with a good disinfectant — I usually use something I pick up in the local farm stores, based on quaternary ammonium compounds, for jobs like this. Sooner is always better than later if you’ve got a fungus or bacterial growth issue.
Then you need to figure out how to keep the relative humidity lower in the basement, and prevent more water from entering. Water penetration (and localized high humidity) are major causes of building failures.
